Dave Collins – Energy Specialist at ECBS

Dave joined ECBS 18 months ago from a large national utility brokerage and has since flourished in his role as business energy specialist, becoming one of the top three highest performers on the team.


His figures have seen an impressive 300% increase since beginning his career with us, and he’s
earning more than double the commission he was previously.

Here’s what Dave had to say about EC Business Solutions, his role within the company and his career
progression 18 months in…

“Since joining the company back in September 2015 I’m overwhelmed at the pace I have progressed
in my role. It wasn’t that I hadn’t received adequate training in my previous roles, I simply put it
down to the outstanding management style and unique structure of ECBS.

The management team is completely committed to nurturing staff to perform at their very best,
while creating a platform to diversify into other roles within the team. If you’re not performing from
the start they won’t give up on you. It took around nine months for me to get up and running in my
role. Yes, there are KPI’s and targets to work towards, but instead of unwelcome pressure and
vigorous timescales, I was given the attention and support I needed until I was able to fully integrate
into my role.

While the company is growing all the time, the team is still small enough to ensure each staff
member receives individual coaching and training bespoke to their personal strengths and
weaknesses. It’s this exclusive commercial approach that really sets ECBS aside from competitors
and enables such strong career progression and development opportunities.

The whole team has a weekly meeting to discuss ideas, best practices and just generally give
everyone the chance to have a voice and add value. I’ve found that this approach to ongoing
learning and development has more substance than perhaps other typical methods I’ve experienced
elsewhere.

Another great aspect of working at ECBS is the support from other staff members. As well as a team
manager to provide dedicated and one-to- one support, we also have an admin manager to take
some of the pressure off the agents. This allows me more time to focus on other areas of my job and
reinforces the company’s ethos of support. Utilising this support system has had a considerable
influence on my success and allowed me to improve my time management and organisation – two
areas I used to particularly struggle with.

At ECBS we only work with quality data allowing more opportunity to win business as opposed to
some other companies I’ve worked for – my customer base has been increasing by 250% per quarter.
This means we’re only contacting quality leads, saving time, maximising sales and, ultimately,
earning more money.

I haven’t even been with the company two years, and I can honestly say I’ve learned a tremendous
amount – probably the most I’ve learned throughout my career to date. The support is the greatest
I’ve ever known in a sales environment and I enjoy coming to work every day. This ongoing learning
combined with a unique culture and freedom to be individual in your role is why I love working at
